Obituary for Bernard N. Fickle

Bernard N. Fickle, 85

EAST LIVERPOOL – Bernard N. Fickle, of Calcutta, passed away suddenly Friday, February 8, 2019 at his home. He was 85.

Born in East Liverpool, November 12, 1933, he was a son of the late Bernard and Ruth Nelson Fickle. A graduate of East Liverpool High School, he remained an avid Potters sports fan for life. For many years, Bernie was a sports broadcaster for WOHI. He worked at the former Harker China Company and then was an inspector at the Columbiana County Health Department. Bernie also played softball and was an avid golfer, bowler and Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Melinda Maestas Fickle. The couple married August 28, 1958.

He is survived by a step-daughter, Juanita Lorsong and her husband, Pete, of Virginia, and four grandchildren: Tisha Frye (Stephen), Jason Lorsong (Michelle), Anita Boyd (Ernie), and Theresa Belangia (Rob); and 12 great-grandchildren.

There is a niece, Cherri Lane and her husband, Pepper, of East Liverpool, and four nephews, John Glenn and his wife, Mary Jane, of Florida, Bob Glenn of Florida, John Fickle and his wife, Roberta, of Boardman, and Steve Fickle of England, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angeline Lorsong, two sisters: Vivian Russell and Luvadell Glenn, and two brothers: Byron Fickle and Jack Fickle.

Pastor Tom Schneidmiller will conduct a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20 at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
