Obituary for Donald William Thorne

COLUMBIANA, OHIO – Donald W. Thorne, 88, of East Liverpool passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Saint Mary’s Alzheimer Center in Columbiana after a lengthy illness.

Donald was born in Parkersburg, WV on September 10, 1930 a son of the late George William and Ethel (Rawson) Thorne. He was a graduate of East Liverpool High School class of 1948. Donald was a veteran of the US Air Force honorably serving during the Korean War. He was a 50 year member of Riddle Lodge # 315 in East Liverpool. Donald was a quiet man and loved to golf. He was hardworking man and helped build four homes in the LaCroft area with his father. Donald worked for Crucible Steel before moving to Columbus, Ohio in 1969. In Columbus, he worked for Defense Construction Supply Center for 21 years as a system analyst retiring in 1990.

Preceding Donald in death were his twin daughters Tracy and Trudy Thorne.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, whom he married, August 31, 1951, Verna (Roach) Thorne; two daughters Sherry Jennings and her husband Harry of Bettendorf, IA and Penny Thorne Sullivan and her husband Joe of Plain City, OH; three grandchildren Matthew Sullivan, Joel Sullivan and his wife Missy and Laura Holmes and her husband Chris; four great grandchildren Anabelle Sullivan, Jude Holmes, Teagan Holmes and Emilia Holmes and three sisters-in-law Eileen Purinton, Hazel Flara and Shirley Gibbs.

A private service was held at the convenience of the family. Burial at Columbiana County Memorial Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dawson Funeral Home.
