Obituary for Terry William Blythe

East Liverpool, Ohio- Terry W. Blythe, 69, of East Liverpool passed away January 24, 2019 at East Liverpool City Hospital.

Terry was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on August 12, 1949 to parents Lawrence W. and Lena Louise Johnson Blythe.

Terry graduated from ELHS in 1967 and joined the Army. Terry proudly served his country from 1967-1971. From September 1968 - September 1969 Terry was in Vietnam serving in The Army Security Agency as a Morse code intercept operator. On September 27, 1969, Specialist 4, Terry W. Blythe, was awarded THE ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL. During Terry's 1 month leave after VietNam, he came home and married his high school sweetheart, Cindy L. Chambers. Together they drove to California to finish Terry's Army service. In November 1970 their first child was born. The 3 made a cross country drive to Virginia, where Terry served his final year of Army service. On October 1, 1971 Terry proudly accepted his Honorable Discharge papers.
Terry and Cindy moved back to East Liverpool in 1971 and 3 years later their second daughter was born. Terry began a career on The River. Terry always worked very hard to take care of his family, and over 40 years apprenticed up from tow boat Deck Hand to Captain; federally licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired in November 2011 and enjoyed being a full time grandfather and great-grandfather. Terry and Cindy loved taking their girls to Virginia and D.C. to visit his sisters, Nancy, Pat and Linda and brother Bob. They continued the travel traditions with the grandkids.

Terry was a member of the VFW, American Legion #702 and The Elks lodge #1040. He had many enjoyable evenings sharing stories and a few beers with his brother Buck Blythe.

Terry was preceded in death by his infant brother, his sister Nancy Blythe, and nephew Brian Blythe.

Terry is survived by, loved by and missed by his Wife of 49 years, Cindy L Chambers Blythe; two daughters Liz Blythe of Columbus, OH and Jennifer Nagy (Paul Joy) of Wellsville, OH; Grandson Joshua Nagy of Wellsville, OH; Granddaughter Kaleen Nagy (Nick West); Great-grandson Noah West of Hanoverton, OH; two sister Patricia and Linda Blythe of Annandale, VA; two brothers Blair (Esther) Blythe of Wellsville, OH and Robert ( Lu) Blythe of Strasburg, VA; sister-in-law Darlene (Dave) Naukam of East Liverpool, OH; cousins Sherry Curtis of East Liverpool, OH; Gege (Hank) Dingfelder of Aiken, SC; nephew Chris (Carla) Blythe of Emerald Isle, NC; niece Tracy Blythe of Jacksonville, FL and a handful of wonderful great-nieces and nephews. Last, but never least, Terry’s beloved, best friend, Gus The Dog.

Visitation will be Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. the Dawson Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Sturm will conduct a funeral service Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Riverview Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will perform military honors.

Immediately following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
